Triton Close Combat and Self Defense

Thank Goodness for Fighting!!! It's Doctor Approved!

In early 2005 I was working out at Bally Total Fitness and was asked to try out a new class. I went that next day and met the most wonderful instructor Piet. As class started he pointed out the trashcans and let us know those were to puke in if we needed to! The class was so hard, but so much fun at the same time.

I loved his classes and wouldn’t miss for anything and was getting ready to switch over to Triton when in July I found out I was pregnant.  Doctor’s orders were stop everything but mild cardio. This was almost torture.

In late August when I was about 6 weeks pregnant I was hanging out with friends when suddenly I had the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life (I can handle pain). The pain kept getting worse so I called my doctor. He wasn’t in so I spoke to the on call doctor who said if it gets worse come to the hospital. So when I was having trouble walking and couldn’t push the gas pedal to drive I had my sister drive me to the hospital. I sat in and out on conciseness in the waiting room. When I finally got wheeled back to the ER room I fought the doctors trying to take my clothes off (I took them off myself) and insisted and putting myself on the table. With a blood pressure of about 50/20 that was quickly dropping, and barely a pulse they stood in amazement I was so active. Then all the chaos began. We found out that the pregnancy was going through a tube and had ruptured.  I was bleeding internally. My skin was clear, all my veins had collapsed, I had to have 5 pints of blood, a lung partially collapsed, along with several other complications.

I made it through and the doctors couldn’t believe it! They had actually given my friends and family the speech that my chances of making it were slim they in fact were surprised I was alive to go to surgery.

At some point after the surgery with the surgeon in the room my mother states to me to stop the kickboxing/fighting. I just looked at her getting ready to respond with oh hell no, but the doctor beat me and said to her ma’am if your daughter had not been kickboxing/fighting and working out so hard she would be dead right now. He then explained to her had my body and internal organs not been used to the impact and stress I would have died.

Thank goodness for fighting!!! I’ve started back at Bally Total Fitness now and have even ventured over to Triton once. I’m slowly working my way back up and hope to be one of Piet’s fighters someday.

And That's My Story,
